The 2022 D.O. Rías Baixas Harvest in D.O. Rías Baixas is the Third Largest in its History
D.O. Rías Baixas has just announced the results of its 2022 harvest, with a total of 40,904,676 kilos of grapes harvested, making it the third-largest harvest in the denomination’s history. Despite being 6.62% less than the previous campaign, the grapes’ quality was excellent, with a high-quality grape entry into the winery, perfect ripeness, and good alcohol content. The campaign lasted 51 days and involved 167 wineries and 4,690 grape growers, with the average yield per hectare this season being 9,466 kg/ha.
The majority of the grapes harvested were white varieties, particularly Albariño, which accounted for 99.10% of the total harvest. The harvest began with the varieties destined for the production of sparkling wine, followed by white grapes, reds, and late harvests. Val do Salnés continues to be the subzone with the highest production, with 63.5% of the total, followed by Condado do Tea with 21.3% and O Rosal with 10.3%. Expectations for the wines of the 2022 vintage are very high, with the grape’s quality and the region’s expertise promising excellent results.
